My Top 5 Video Game Soundtracks... of all time!

It's not a secret that I love video game music.  If you could scroll through my iPod, it would remove any doubt.  Even if you've never played a video game in your life, I believe everyone can appreciate the music.
Choosing a top 5 is very difficult since making a Top 50 would be easier since there are so many amazing soundtracks to choose from.
Yes I grouped series together instead of listing individual games.  I can do that, it's my blog.  ^_^
So when I was going through game music from across all generations for my video game music radio (crossing my fingers that the stream will stay stable unattended), I decided to put a list together of my favorites.

Okay here we go!

5) Dynasty Warriors series
Hack and slash... not a genre loved by all video game players but it really wins for me. Some may find it too repetitive, but I find it satisfying wielding 2x 1h swords and hacking my way through a bizillion enemies.  What better way to do so than by listening to the awesome soundtracks from the Dynasty Warriors series.  The guitar heavy music really reflects the fast paced and intense combat of the game.  Not what you'd expect from a Japanese game.  I call it win.

4) Halo series
Something about music from Halo seems almost magical to me.  It's unique and very recognizable.  There's never any doubt that when you hear the Halo theme song, you know exactly what game it's from.  Every time I boot up a Halo game I have to pause and listen to the music before playing the game... it sets a tone for an epic adventure.  That singing... those notes... that sound... love it.

3) World of Warcraft
I played WoW for ~5 years and I never got tired of the music.  Even opening the game and just leaving it idle at the login screen was great background music.  Walking around towns, raiding with the guild, adventuring solo... the music for this game is truly brilliant.  I have 3 WoW collector's editions and they all include a game soundtrack CD.  I am very happy to have this epic music in my collection.

2) Super Meat Boy
Immediately following the first time ever watching someone play this game, I HAD to get the soundtrack.  Electronic beats fits in perfect with the crazy platforming gameplay.  Some of the music has an old school 8 bit feel and some of the music is very modern but all of the music is unique and a perfect blend of awesome.  Every time I hear Super Meat Boy music on my iPod, it's automatic that I turn up the volume.  There are no bad songs on this soundtrack. If you love techno, go get this soundtrack now!

1) Final Fantasy series
I've spent more hours playing Final Fantasy games than any other series... and referring to Nobuo Uematsu as a musical genius is an understatement.  The first FF game that I played was FFVIII and I was hooked.  I've played the classics and I've played the latest... and the music is always one of my favorite aspects of the series.  When I search youtube for Final Fantasy songs... I'm not surprised that many have up to and over one million views.  The music is amazing and I'll never grow tired of listening to it.
If you love the music from Final Fantasy, check out Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey soundtracks as well!

Runner up soundtracks that also deserve your listening attention: L.A. Noire, Castle Crashers, ilomilo, Mega Man II, and Mass Effect series... too many to list them all!

Do you have a favorite game soundtrack?  Please share!  I'd love to talk about it.  :)
If you'd love to hear video game music from across all generations, please tune in October 15th from 5am-3pm (as long as the broadcast remains stable unattended).
