Busy hands will be busy. (Don't worry, I don't have man hands)
As you all know (or should know!) that I'm streaming my 24 hour gaming marathon LIVE on justin.tv this October 15th.
I plan on doing commentary via mic while streaming the event... but I'm in a pickle!
For everyone who watches the marathon from the streaming website, there is an option to IM chat with me and everyone else in the channel.
I can watch the chat window on my laptop and I'd love to be able to talk with people who are watching the stream (since my hands will be busy with a controller, I can't type back)...
My current gaming headset works fine during the sound tests but it's not comfortable to wear for multiple hours at a time, especially since I wear glasses.
I had originally planned on using a tabletop mic stand + USB Rock Band microphone connected to my PC (hands and head free). Now I've changed my mind and decided that a headset mic would be easier.
-Why?
- It's not taking up space on a table and in range of my accidental prone arms that will probably knock it over.
- I can mute it while I'm eating... 'cause no one wants to hear that, right? :P
- It won't pick up noise from the tv since game sounds will be in the headphone(s) for me and direct game sound will be through the PC capture card for you.
This is where I need your help.
I've decided that I'd like to use a 3.5mm connection instead of USB. Why? USB uses software (drivers) and 3.5mm uses the onboard sound card. Hardware wins especially when I'm going to be using the same PC for the streaming... I'd like as little interference as possible. If you know more info about this or if I'm wrong, please share and comment. I'm an audio noob but I'm trying to learn as much as I can! :)
So now it comes down to headset choices.
These are in a reasonable price range ~$30.
Sennheiser PC21 Single-Sided Monaural Headset with Microphone

I like the idea of a single sided headset... I'm used to this style because the Xbox LIVE headset is the same setup. Easier to take on and off when I need to stretch or make a pit stop. :) But I will also have the game sounds in the earphones, unlike the Xbox headset which is for voice chat only.
Logitech Gaming Headset G330

This was my original choice but a new things make me hesitate having this headset jumping into my shopping cart.
This will no doubt have better game sound quality vs the one sided headset. It will be more difficult to take on and off whenever I need to get up because I have crazy long hair that gets in the way.
I need you people to help with words of encouragement, peptalks, funny jokes or request a game to play.
So please log on and chat with me during the marathon, thanks!
I think you should go with THAT one. Yep.
