Yes, I'm a late bloomer when it comes to gaming... I'll be the first to admit that.
Retro games just don't fit into my top five because I didn't have the joy of growing up with them.
I *could* go back and play them, etc etc... but I'm very much enjoying current generation games with all their pretty graphics and wireless controllers. ;)
Soooooo anywho... here's my list:
1) Bioshock
I loved this game from start to finish. It's not very often I replay a game, especially within the same year... yet I've played Bioshock on both my Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Some people find the story hard to get into but if you take the time, listen to the dialog and audio recordings, it's much more engaging. The combat is super fun along with RPG-like elements such as health upgrades, plasmid choices and weapon upgrades. It's a very awesome FPS with an amazing story. So if you haven't played it yet, would you kindly? :P
Time to save the world from the darkspawn! I'm a fan of BioWare games but I can safely say that this one is my favorite (so far). This action RPG has super fun combat, great RPG elements and an amazing story. You can choose from three different classes: warrior, rogue and mage. And yes, I played through the game three times, each time with a different class... not only is it a different combat experience but the story is different too! How awesome is that?
I was always a fan of the Final Fantasy series. The very first game I ever played was Final Fantasy VIII. So when this game out I was totally stoked... and for good reason.
This game is a turn based RPG and it's very well done. The story had me hooked from the beginning all the way until the end. I usually don't get emotional about video games but this one got to me. The combat is a traditional turn based RPG with seven playable characters.
GLaDOS... oh how I love to hate you. This game is addicting... not only for the fun puzzles but for the humorous dialog. This puzzle FPS game is short but epic. Takes around 3-4 hours to complete but you'll be coming back for more and more. If you've ever wondered why the cake was a lie, play this game!
Awesome first person shooter? Check! Epic role playing game? Check!
This game has it all... and despite the random glitches, I put well over 130 hours into this game. The story was very good and I loved all of the FPS/RPG elements. If you love to explore, shoot stuff and collect things, this game is for you! Along with my trusty sidekicks I had a mission to save the world! Or at least what was left of it...
Of course there is a chance that this list might end up changing this year.... I'm growing quite fond of Borderlands and there are also soooo many epic games are going to be released such as Dragon Age 2, Portal 2 and Mass Effect 3. Can't wait!
I haven't played Bioshock, and I wasn't into playing FFX (though I did like the story--quite a lot), but I totally agree with the others! :D
